How to Get More Than Your Foot in the Door

Dr. Athit Kao, Principal Investigator, Nightwing

Like many in cybersecurity, Dr. Kao came from a different industry. He started in the biotechnology field as a scientist and pivoted into engineering and project management. Leveraging his transferable skills in data science and technical communications, he was able to progress in the defense sector, recently serving as the Innovation Strategy Manager for Raytheon Engineering. Currently, Athit is a Principal Investigator and Chief Engineer for artificial intelligence and machine learning research at Nightwing, the former cybersecurity portfolio for Raytheon, an RTX business. Looking back, he says it was an exciting journey from his first job out of college, as an intern! In this presentation, Dr. Athit Kao will convey the critical importance of internships, having a beginner's mindset, and structured mentorship early in your professional career. He will then discuss experiences interns have had and upcoming 2025 internship opportunities at Nightwing, the former cybersecurity portfolio for Raytheon, an RTX business.
